AUDIOBOOK WORK

Where the wild things are audiobook evaluation

Our task we were given was to create an audiobook aimed at children and also towards adults so they could engage with the story also. The story we were given was where the wild things are. The people in my group were Dainah brown, Alice Calvert, James o Gorman, jeseca dos Santos and myself.

The pre-production consisted of investigating and researching our target audience by looking on sound cloud and listening to audiobooks. Then we had to put the properties of the books we listened to into a table. Then this was analysed and looked at more thoroughly. The pre-production process was fairly easy and the script was interesting to do and let us get practice but using a different medium. Once all of the pre-production was done we had to start planning what the book would sound like , and what sound effects we were going to use. Along with this we had to say what the characters would sound like and what their personality would be like.

The characters who were chosen were me as the narrator, Alice as a wild thing, James as a wild thing and jeseca as the mother and max. We all contributed opinions and views of what we could do better. The production process took a few hours as we had a short book but we had to make the sound effects and do all of the audio. The sound came out a lot better than we thought and it was clear and understandable.  The audio was spaced so sound effects could be implemented. During the recording we said the scenes so when it came to editing we could easily put them in order. There was a lot of rerecording things because of background sounds or errors on our behalf. Many of the clips were cut down to a very small size as most of it was empty space or background noise. We stuck to the source material and we kept all the original lines from the book. There were no problems in production besides getting a time to film.

During the editing stage I experienced a lot of issues. Some of these included my footage disappearing, too much background noise to edit to perfection. Some clips had to be recorded again as some of them didn’t sound as good as they could have done. When I was editing I took screenshots of my editing process and what I did to make it how it was. I didn’t go through putting the footage in because that’s a basic skill. Overall the project was a success and a good introduction into recording audio
