AUDIO BOOK sESSiON ANALYSIS.

 

IN OUR FIRST LESSON BACK WE ALSO LEARNT ABOUT THE TECHNIQUES USED IN THE MAKING OF AUDIOBOOKS. THIS PARTICULAR SESSION FOCUSED ON HOW THE ROALD DAHL BOOKS WERE BRUNG TO LIFE BY SOUND EFFECTS AND THE VOICE ACTORS.

 

THE SOUND EFFECTS USED ARE MADE BY ACTUAL OBJECTS. THE SEGMENT WE WERE SHOWN SHOWED A HOTEL BEING RECREATED WITH SOUNDS LIKE FOOTSTEPS, PLATES AND FORKS AND COOKING.ALL OF THE SOUNDS ARE MADE ON A SOUNDSTAGE, MOST OF THE SOUNDS ARE MADE USING OBJECTS WHICH ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THAT SOUND SO THERE IS NO COMPUTER ELEMENTS ADDED BESIDES PUTTING ALL OF THEM TOGETHER AND TO THE WORDS OF THE BOOK.

 

THE WAY THEY RECORD THE SOUNDS IS by SITTING IN A STUDIO READING THE BOOK MAKING SOUND EFFECTS AS THEY GO ALONG OR CHANGING VOICES AND THEN THE SOUND EFFECTS ARE INSERTED. THE FAMOUS PEOPLE WHO SPEAK IN THE BOOKS CHANGE THEIR VOICES TO MAKE THE BOOK LIKE IT WOULD BE IN REAL LIFE.

 

in the session we were introduced to the recording equipment used to record audfiobooks and two of the class had a go using the buffalo. the main aims of the session were to introduce us to the sound side of media. this was done by watching videos relating with the subject and showing behind the scenes how they were made and it offered insight. the key people who were mentioned in the lession were from the studios who made wall-e (check wall-e sound analysis) i didnt really have a key role in the session but i answered questions as there was little to get involved with. whilst the activities were being done i felt like i was learning techniques.the activities took place in the class.

 

things i can take from the lession are that the sound creating process is not as hard as it looks and it just takes creativity to make the characters or the enviroment come to life.

 

if i could use the techniques in past projects i would as they are practical and sound more cleaner than those off of the internet which is beter for viewing as then it doesnt sound automated or doesnt rely on the internet too much.for next lesson i need to get involved more and not sit back.
