For our christmas film we were given the time period of the 1940s. We struggled for ideas and our pitch was not as good as it could have been and a lot of the feedback was against the ideas we had. Eventually we came to the conclusion that we would use film noire which was a genre from the 1940s and we used it in a modern day scenario. The name was thought up by scott mcglochlan and it mixed in one of drakes songs whcih was in the charts. the people in my group were dainah brown, jamie buxton , scott mcglochlan and james o gorman.

 

In our pre production we had a lot of ideas, some of these included many period dramas which all involved getting props from the time and a lot of time to film which we didnt have. when we stopped with the other ideas didnt work we started to plan the film noire . we had a bsic concept of a murder because of jealousy and an interview consisting of flashbacks to the murder.

 

Production was very difficult. Many days we had some people didnt come in so we either didnt film or had to improvise on one of the days of shooting we had to refilm a lot of the footage as it was lost with diffferemnt actors as the originals had gone home. we had to shoot all of our shots on the spot as we didnt have a shot list only a script. I learnt many new techniques like how to do a follow shot and how to do consistent shots with improvisation as i had to fill in. the acting wasnt the best but we arent drama students so what we produced we are happy with.

 

Editing was the hardest part of the process. i am not good at editing and i had to do an individual edit which was hard for me but i learnt the baisca and how to add a filter and titles. The ending credits i am proud of as we have outtakes aswell which was hard for me to do.

 

what i think went well was watching the final product after the difficulty which it took to film. Although some of the serious bits were funny because of the acting, the rest was acceptable for what we did and we all had input and tried our best with the resources and time we had. 

 

what i think we could have done better for next time is to all construct what we had to do earlier and to have a solid idea to work on rather than a lot all together. Also the shots we used werent the best and could be improved and the edit can have a lot more done to it as it is quite basic as we used my individual edit to show so it wasnt the best.
