a christmas carol over the years

The charles dickens classic 'a christmas carol' follows eboniser scrooge, an old stingy rich man who denies the poor and his employees of any generosity. the tale is moral based and thriughout the audience sees scrooge change into a different man. there have been many film adaptations of the novel and although some are not good as others they still all portray the same themes just according to the audience of that time period.

early 1900s- the early 1900s saw many advancements in editing and in the filming of productions. the sets are theatre like and are very flat. the actors do not speak therefore adding no emotion or any real message to the film. although at the time it would have been a privelidge to see a film the story does not reflect the wonder of cinema at the time.

1920s- the 1920s was he start of the hollywood we know today with big names and studios emerging. with the help ogf new technology and filming techniques the next christmas carol movie was a lot better and more accustomed to the audience than the 1900s edition.

1930s- the use of sound was introduced allowing dialogue between characters to add empathy towards the actors.

1940s- the 1940s christmas carol film was more developed than the one before.

1950- the 1950s christmas carol incorporated music and new camera angles which included more than one character in a shot.

1960- the cartoon special was specifically aimed at children therefore taking some of the seriousness away and making it family friendly. which could also reflect the moral of the story to a younger audience.

1970-the 190s production of a christmas carol was done by the scooby doo animator. the animation was very dark and did not match the tone of his previous work and was a lot more serious.

1980-scrooged was the adaptation of the dickens book in the 1980s. It included actors such as bill murray and bobcat goldthwaite who were big names in cinema at the time. the plot has a modern approach to the tale and is not based in the 1800s.

1990- the muppets christmas carol movie was the next in the line of adaptations. the film was aimed at children with some humour adults would understand. it has jokes which can still be seen as funny and it has become a classic and is well renowned.

2000s- a christmas carool was the firs tin the series and in cinema to use motion capture technology. this took the face of the real actor of scrooge in this case jim carey and put it onto animated scrooge. the film is slightly dark for a childrens movie and as it is made by disney it strays away from any stereotypes about their productions.
