16/03/2016 FILM FESTIVAL ANALYSIS.
For our first lesson of the final major project we had to research three films festivals. The festivals we researched were fright fest, channel 4 online shorts and the east end film festival.we had to research multiple film festivals to get an idea of what we wanted to do for our final major project. the one which appealed to me the most was frightfest as tyhere is a lot which can be done with the horror genre and there are techniques which we have learnt to help us. The horror genre is very easy to make a film around as long as the plot makes sense. we also looked at some fesitvals or some competitions which the films were involved in. finding a winner of a horror festival particulalrly frightfest was hard as i couldn't find one. there were quite a lot of good films but i narrowed it doen to a few to analyse as they were the most in dpeth and were very easy to interpret after one or a few watches.
17/03/2016 horror analysis
In today's lesson we had to research the codes and conventions of horror films (this can be found on my FMP research page) i think this went fairly well and i wrote as much detail as i saw was enough. The research broadened my knowledge of the genre all though i knew a lot from the previous horror film which we did in october.Going into depth on the research helped as we didnt go into as much detail last time and analyse the horror genre in heavy detail.there are a lot of mistakes which i made in the previous horror film whichn can be fixed thanks to this and other research. trying to stay away from the stereotypes will be hard as then the film will be confusing so i have chosen to stick to the stereotpyes.Using the traits of horror films can work to my advantage as i can play on them and make them my or my groups own maybe relating to characters weve met in the past to give 8it some interesting elements. obviously if we did do this we would have to be careful and change the character a lot to not offend.
21/03/2016 focus group lesson
In todays lesson we had to design a questionaire to hand out to a focus group which would be organised by us. the focus group needed to have 6 people and needs to showcase two films of our choice which relate to our festival and genre.I chose the films which i analysed in the frightfest analysis as i knew what was in them and that they were of a good quality.the questions are similar for each film as then there is an easier comparison when it comes to it. the focus group will contribute to the reasearch as it is analysing an audience which is within the target audience of my genre. it also made me take into comnsideration what i could edo better in my pitch as it is a similar situation. participating in other focus groups gave me an idea of some of the techniques that can be used for the future of this project.
25th april 2016
today is finished my pitch and i made sure it had all the criteria, which it now does now what i have to do is rehearse it and then practice the whole thing. I researched the budget an how much it would be.
The second lesson of making our pitch which was on thursday the 28th of april and i finished my pitch and proof read it.
the pitch
For my pitch i had to design a powerpoint and had to pitch my individual interpetation of our film idea. overall the pitch went vbery well and was received well by my teacher and my peers/ group members
9th may
Today in natalies lesson I started on the storyboards. there were a lot of shots which had to be incorporated so i split the work with james. I am not good at drawing but its the best i could do. I also made adjustments to my poster and as the story boards were finished we have finished our pre production.
14th may
today we carried on doing our pre prodcution and we came up with a definite name which is captive. we said some ideas about what to include as we only had a basic idea and it was not developed enough, although we had the storyboards we wanted to make sure we made the idea what it needed to be. we then went on to go and film and we filmed evertything in one day.
23rd may production
we had to replna the whole stroy as it was not good enough today we filmed we got out equipment and our actor and got to location on time, we were a bit delayed as we had to get fake blood and other things from beforehand. when we got to location it took us a while to set up as we had a lot of equipmetnt and i thibnk personally we had too much. we filmed basically the whole film today but we have some reshoots to do as we have some gain issues.
Thursday 26th may
today we finished filming and we used the same location as before but this time it was with different actors who were tom and zhane. we finished quickly as we had a cleare plan of what we wanted to do. we got back and started to edit.
friday 27th may
today we started to edit both cuts so then we would have a rough cut and would also have two cuts to show what had changed and what we did to change the film and to make it better.
post production 27th may- 10th june
i edited the first film and the second film with ease. there were a few issues but nothing major, there was some continuity erros in some shots which was irritating to edit and it wass hard to avoid. i tried my best wuith the editing to eduit certain things out and to make it as good as i can. it is an improvemtn of my previous projects.i did the critical evaluation and finished all my documetns and added everything to my website.
